RN-Uvatneftegaz company, part of Rosneft Oil Company's oil-and-gas production complex, started a grant project of high importance for preserving biodiversity of the Tyumen Region. Within the scope of the project scientists of the Tyumen State University will research the ornithofauna and the condition of populations of rare and protected bird species, included in the Red Books of the Tyumen Region and Russia. The research will be conducted within the riverine area of the Irtysh river of the Uvatsky District.

Environment protection is an integral part of Rosneft's corporate culture and one of the Company's key operation principles. The Company has been a member of the UN Global Compact for more than 10 years, reaffirming its commitment to 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.

During Stage One of the research ornithologists will collect and analyse data on rare and protected bird species, and during Stage Two they will conduct field research to estimate the quantitative condition of the populations. As a result of the research, scientists will provide guidance on possible creation of a new designated conservation area in the region.

Taking care of the conservation of wildlife and maintaining the sustainable state of ecosystems, Rosneft implements a number of programmes for the study and preservation of flora and fauna in the regions of its presence. Since 2014 more than 20 projects have been developed, including research of rare animals, birds and fish, as well as preserving national culture of indigenous ethnic minorities.
