Bashneft (part of Rosneft) has commissioned a new high-tech permeate (sour gas) processing unit at the automated gas treatment complex at the Metelinsky field in the Republic of Bashkortostan. The unit was launched as part of the 32nd International Specialized Exhibition «Gas. Oil. Technologies», which is held in Ufa.
The new unit will annually process 17.5 million m3 of permeate, which is produced during the purification of natural and associated petroleum gases.
The new permeate treatment unit became an important part of the automated gas treatment complex built in several stages as part of Bashneft’s large-scale gas program. The launch of a membrane gas separation unit as part of the first stage of the complex at the Metelinsky field enabled the quality of the ‘blue fuel’ mixture to be raised to the requirements for supply to gas distribution pipelines. During winter peaks, this membrane unit delivers more than 40,000 m3 per day, fully meeting the gas needs of some 3,000 households in the Duvansky District of Bashkortostan.
The commissioning of the second train of the complex has doubled the production of commercial gas by incorporating APG into the production process and producing a mixture of natural and associated petroleum gases with a high degree of purity. Some of the gas produced is sent to consumers, the other serves as fuel for generating its own electricity at the Meteli gas piston power plant, which produces more than 75 million kWh of electricity per year. This ensures the operation of equipment at the enterprise’s Arlansky and Naratovsky fields in the Krasnokamsky District of the Republic.
The commissioning of the final stage of the gas processing complex will reduce the environmental impact and provide industrial and household consumers with more environmentally friendly fuel. In addition, the introduction of an improved process cycle will ensure that the rational use of associated petroleum gas at the Metelinsky field exceeds 96%.
One of the key elements of Rosneft's strategy is the development of technological potential. The Company pays utmost attention to innovation, recognising the technological leadership as a key factor of competitiveness in the oil market.
Reference:
Bashneft is one of the oldest oil and gas enterprises in the country engaged in oil and gas extraction and processing. The enterprise’s key assets, including the refinery and petrochemical complex, are located in the Republic of Bashkortostan.
Oil and gas exploration and production are also carried out in Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug–Yugra, Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Orenburg Oblast, the Republic of Tatarstan and Perm Krai. Since 2012, Bashneft has been implementing a targeted gas program aimed at achieving the highest possible level of rational use of associated petroleum gas. As a result of the implementation of the gas program, large-scale investments in the construction of gas pipelines, gas compressor stations and other initiatives, the APG utilization rate at Bashneft’s fields reached 95.7% in 2023.
