Rosneft and the Tourism and Development Centre of the Arkhangelsk Region jointly organised the inaugural Road to the Russian North festival in Velsk, the historical capital of Pomorie.
Mr Leonid Panfilov, a titled racer and pilot of the LADA Sport Rosneft racing team, extended a warm welcome to the guests of the festival—car travellers, caravaners and tourists. Leonid held an autograph session and answered questions from the participants of the event.
The motor festival programme comprised a variety of engaging activities for visitors of all ages, including art workshops, interactive quizzes and mobile games with prizes from Rosneft. The branded food truck (mobile café) offered a wide range of hot meals and a selection of authentic souvenirs.
Motor tourists were informed about the camping options at the Vladimirovsky countryside complex (Leningrad Region), which offers a range of facilities for comfortable rest for those travelling by car. The festival guests were also introduced to the information and service platform “Horizons of Russia: Ride with us!” and the routes created for car trips, including those through the Arkhangelsk Region and its main attractions.
The Velsk Motor Festival was organised as part of the Memorandum of Cooperation between Rosneft and the Arkhangelsk Region to develop domestic tourism and the region’s tourism potential and road infrastructure.
As part of the Road to the Russian North project, a route has been developed for car travellers that includes Pomorie’s landmarks, the most picturesque natural landscapes, the most interesting places where you can get to know the unique cultural heritage and traditions of the Russian North. Other destinations from Arkhangelsk include visits to caves, sand spits, karst caves and the distinctive northern villages.
The length of the Road to the Russian North motorway route from Velsk to Arkhangelsk is 550 km. With stops, it takes four days one way. For car tourists coming from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yaroslavl, Vologda, it’s best to follow the M-8 motorway. There are Rosneft petrol stations along the route, where travellers can have a comfortable rest, buy goods and souvenirs of local production—the famous northern gingerbread, northern berry drinks and local sweets.
Rosneft is a prominent supporter of initiatives to develop domestic tourism in Russia, with a particular focus on providing maximum comfort for car travellers. The Company launched a special information and service platform “Horizons of Russia: Ride with us!” in 2023. The project allows car tourists to choose and plan routes to interesting places using the infrastructure of roadside services and Rosneft filling stations. The Horizons of Russia project has a number of key features: thanks to the unique navigation functionality, all points of interest become stops on the route, which the driver can build and modify at any time during the journey.
